Show notes: Listen to our podcast for complete message on the benefits of Muscadine grapes.
oooooh the ever so sweet and delectable Muscadine grape or the Vitis rotundi folia! These grapes are known to have high amounts of Resveratrol. We spoke about Resveratrol on Skincare Talk Radio Conversation # 29-on September 6, 2014.
We spoke about the ORAC values and it’s importance on episode 29. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (units). This is a database that will give you the measurements of antioxidants in the foods that you consume-measured per 100 grams which equates to 3.5 ounces. In this chart, the higher thenumber the more antioxidant protection. This is a creation by the National Institute of Aging in the Institutes of Health (NIH) . You can find this database at oracvalues.com. There is an enormous amount of information online about the benefits overall but today let’s concentrate on what skincare products containing elements of the Muscadine grape can do for you. We all know that good skin begins within by the consumption of a clean diet high in antioxidants such as our green and colorful veggies. The Muscadine grape in skincare (seed & skin) contain the powerful Resveratrol which plays an important role in protecting our skin. It is said that the muscadine grape is three times powerful than the blueberry. Just good to know: Blueberries contain resveratrol -a small amount but makes for an excellent addition to the diet for other health reasons. Ellagic acid and quercetin work well together with resveratrol; this is why you quite often find them together in foods and skincare products. Plants produce what’s called: phytoalexin and they do so when under stress. This is how you can remember resveratrol because it’s the natural antioxidant compound (phytoalexin) produced by plants. When we apply skincare products with Resveratrol it seems to soothe sun damaged skin, prevent the formation of pre-mature wrinkles because of its anti inflammatory properties. Our body is programed to defend itself from free radical damage (FRD=promotes premature aging) but as we age we exhaust those resources so we need to replenish them in order to keep our body and skin healthy. How can we do that? By including foods to your diet high in antioxidants and by the application of topical products. Antioxidants like Resveratrol can prove to be a potent “aging gracefully” strategy that works! Why does this work? Because it boosts your collagen fibers (-remember we said that we can find them in our dermal layer of the skin?) As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and it begins to thin allowing wrinkles to express themselves. Some skincare manufacturers have caught wind of this information and have added Reseveratrol into their skin line. Resveratrol is one of many plant-based compounds known as a polyphenol and the Muscadine grape is loaded with it. Your epidermis loves it because of it’s potent healing power!
Let’s talk skincare products!
As you can well-imagine there are plenty of products to choose from nowadays. As all things, you must do your homework and be selective on what is truly pure and what is not. Sometimes we (me included) over pay for a product that turns out NOT to work on the skin at all. Oh, let’s not mention the “other” stuff added to the so called “pure” and “natural” products. Our do-it-yourself (DIY) such as the vitamin C serum that I make is just as effective (if not better because it is fresher) than those priced over $ 100 in the retail market. We need to educate ourselves on what we are truly consuming and applying on our skin.

*Skincare Talk Radio by cieloscent-Consistency is the secret to great skin and with a few easy steps daily you can age gracefully!
1. Cleanse your face. Twice a day and once for sensitive skin types.
2. Tone your face-I use pure rose water but you can use your favorite lite toner if you don’t like fragrance.
3. It is very important to EXFOLIATE your skin once to twice a week depending on your skin type.
4. Use a DIY serum or a good quality serum to add to your skincare routine.
5. Moisturize according to your skin type
6. –Massage your face as you apply all of your products for an increase in circulation.
6. Wear your sunscreen every single day! Yes, even winter months! 15 minutes a day unprotected sun is important for vitamin D production. Please no more than 15 minutes or as your skin demands- if less.
7. Watch your diet and add rich colorful vegetables for their anti-oxidant properties
8. Cut out sugar which is inflammatory and if at all possible avoid alcohol. If you drink alcoholic beverages limit yourself to one and follow by drinking water. Alcohol is very dehydrating to the skin.
9. Careful with stress: Add meditation, yoga, sport, exercise, or a hobby that can relieve the stress.
10. Love gives you a glow that shines for miles-
